As a key stakeholder in the standardization of Chinese medicine under ISO/TC 249, the Chinese Medicine Industry Council of Australia (CMIC) has maintained an active role in international standard-setting since 2010. CMIC President Dr. Max Ma has served continuously as a committee member of HE-031, the Australian expert committee managed by Standards Australia (SA), since its inception 15 years ago.
Over the past decade and a half, the committee has been involved in the development, drafting, review, and finalization of more than 100 international standards. Key milestones and published ISO standards contributed to include:
- ISO 17218:2014 – Sterile acupuncture needles for single use
- ISO 17217-1:2014 – Traditional Chinese medicine — Ginseng seeds and seedlings — Part 1: Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer
- ISO 18664:2015 – Traditional Chinese medicine — Determination of heavy metals in herbal medicines used in Traditional Chinese Medicine
- ISO 18665:2015 – Traditional Chinese medicine — Herbal decoction apparatus
- ISO 18666:2015 – Traditional Chinese medicine — General requirements of moxibustion devices
